 May 10, 2017

There are 22 school days remaining until Summer Break!!!

We would like to extend a giant, THANK YOU to all the families that participated in last week’s Teacher Appreciation activities!  We were able to give away over 75 gift cards to our teachers during the daily drawings!!  We saw lots of really great snacks for the lounge, flowers, notes and sweet tokens of appreciation! I know our teachers felt the love!

There are still several auction items and a number of raffle items at the school to be picked up. We are happy to send these Home with your students. Keep a lookout in folders as We will start sending  raffle items home on Friday and they will either be in the Friday or Monday folders. Thanks so much and as always please let us know if you have any questions. You can reach Brooke and Andrea at Creeksideraffle@gmail.com

Spring Family Curriculum Night
Thursday, May 11
5:30 – 7:00 P.M.

Join us for our Spring Family Curriculum Night to finish the 2016-17 School Year in-the-know and prepare for the 2017-18 School Year!

From 5:30-5:55PM, Grades 1-5* will spend time in their current classroom hearing about the end of the year plans—from testing to celebrations, and everything in between.

Then, at 6PM, our Kindergarten Families can join us and all families can choose the session(s) that best meets their needs. Identical sessions will be held from 6-6:25 and then again from 6:30-6:55 allowing families to choose up to 2 sessions to attend from the following:

– Each grade level will host a “Step Up” session sharing details and helpful hints to prepare you for next year. This is a great opportunity to learn about what to expect in the next grade up.
– Willing to be a huge help by volunteering to proctor during EOG’s? Get proctor training out of the way early!
– Share with us your thoughts on ways parents can connect at Creekside! Our session on parent involvement will give you a chance to share your thoughts and ideas!

Volunteers needed for Field Day – Field Day 2017 is almost here!  Please help your students remember to dress appropriately on Field Day.  Appropriate attire includes clothing that is appropriate for physical activity, running, playing — shorts and t-shirts are great!  Skirts and dresses are not a good choice on Field Day!  In addition, it is VERY important that all students wear tennis shoes on Field Day.  This will allow for safe and full participation in all Field Day events.  Students who are not wearing safe/appropriate shoes on Field Day (ex: sandals, flip flops, dress shoes, deck shoes, boots, high heels, wedge or platform shoes, Crocs, and slip-on shoes like Toms or Vans) will be prohibited from Field Day stations. PLEASE make sure your child wears sneakers! Students will be working on Field Day activities in their next few PE classes, and all students will be assigned a team color: Yellow or Green. If your child is able to wear their team color (yellow or green) on Field Day, please encourage them to do so! If any parents are interested and able to volunteer to help with Field Day, please email Ms. Andrews directly: elizabeth.andrews@dpsnc.net

Field Day dates and times are below:

5th Grade:  Monday, May 8 from 8:30 – 9:40

4th Grade:  Monday, May 8 from 10:10-11:20

3rd Grade: Monday, May 8 from 12:10-1:20

We’ve added new car magnets ($3.00 or 2 for $5.00) and cinch sack backpacks (only $5.00!) and we have short-sleeved Creekside t-shirts available in all youth and adult sizes, even kids’ x-small!  Spirit wear items purchased through the online store will be delivered to your child’s classroom, and we’ll have the same items available for purchase at several of the upcoming school events.

Stock up and show your Creekside Pride!

Githens Parent-Staff Meet and Greet, May 15@5:30PM

Come meet Githens parents and staff on May 15th at 5:30PM during a Meet and Greet in the Media Center.  Enjoy some snacks and beverages, and find out a little more about Githens.  Current parents,  teachers, and administrators will be there and will be happy to answer any questions you have.  This is also a great time to think about ways to be involved in school activities next year.  You are also invited to attend the PTA meeting, immediately following the Meet and Greet.  It’s a great chance to see the great things that are happening at Githens.
Hope you can join us, and bring a friend!

Crayola Color Cycle Program at Creekside Continues – We are excited to report that we are going to continue the marker recycling program started last year in conjunction with Crayola. It’s called CrayolaColorCycle – an amazing program devised to turn used markers into energy!  Last year Creekside recycled 2,148 markers.  Let’s see if we can beat that number this year!!
All around Creekside Elementary students and teachers will be collecting used markers (all brands of plastic markers, not just Crayola markers, that includes dry erase markers and highlighters),  that are ready to be discarded. The markers will then be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more!
Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house. Drop-off boxes will be located in each classroom for your child to deposit the markers.  These boxes will remain in the classrooms throughout the year for continued marker recycling.
Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents like you across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.

It’s NEVER too late to join the Creekside PTA!
